Intro

Heating and cooling problems don't always have a one-size-fits-all answer. A system that isn't keeping up may need a simple repair, while another home may be dealing with an aging system, poor airflow, improper sizing, or an installation issue. And when it's time for replacement, the right equipment depends on more than the square footage of your home.
At Burns Air Care, our first step is to listen. We want to understand what you're experiencing, what concerns you have, and what you want from your heating and cooling system. From there, we can evaluate the equipment and the home as a whole, explain what we find, and discuss the options that make sense for your situation.
Through our partnership with Ridge's HVAC, we provide heating and cooling service, repair, maintenance, and installation throughout our Indiana service area. Whether you're trying to keep an existing system running, improve the comfort of your home, or considering a complete replacement, our goal is to help you understand your options and make an informed decision without unnecessary pressure.

Why It Matters

Why It Matters:

Your heating and cooling system is one of the hardest-working and most important systems in your home. When it's working properly, you probably don't think much about it. But when it isn't, the effects can quickly show up as uncomfortable rooms, higher utility bills, poor airflow, frequent repairs, or a system that simply can't keep up.
Proper maintenance and timely repairs can help extend the life of your equipment, improve reliability, and identify smaller problems before they become more expensive ones. Just as importantly, when a system does need to be replaced, proper sizing and installation matter. Even quality equipment can perform poorly if it's incorrectly sized, connected to inadequate ductwork, or installed without considering the home around it.
Whether you're maintaining an existing system, dealing with a problem, or considering replacement, understanding the condition of the entire system helps you make better decisions about where to spend your money and when.

Our Apporach

Our Approach:

Every HVAC service call starts with understanding what you're experiencing and what you're hoping to accomplish. Before recommending a repair, replacement, or upgrade, we take the time to listen, evaluate the system, and look at the home around it.
Our goal is to give you the information you need to make a good decision. After evaluating the system, we'll explain what we find, discuss the options available, and give you our professional recommendation. Sometimes repairing an existing system makes good sense. Other times, the age, condition, efficiency, or cost of repairs may make replacement the better long-term investment.
When replacement is one of those options, we take the same approach. We don't believe an accurate recommendation can be made from a few details over the phone. Equipment sizing, existing ductwork, venting, gas piping, electrical requirements, drainage, available space, and the condition of the existing installation can all affect what your project actually requires. Evaluating those details allows us to recommend the right equipment and provide an estimate based on the actual job rather than assumptions.
We also explain where different choices may affect the overall cost of the project. For example, when both the furnace and air conditioner are nearing replacement, replacing the complete system at the same time is typically more economical than replacing each piece separately because portions of the installation work overlap. That doesn't mean you have to replace both. We regularly replace furnaces or air conditioners individually when that makes the most sense. We simply want you to understand the options and the potential long-term cost difference before making that decision.
We believe informed homeowners make better decisions. We'll explain the advantages and disadvantages of the available options and tell you which route we recommend, but ultimately, it's your home and your money. As long as the work can be completed safely and in accordance with applicable codes, we'll respect your decision and help you move forward with the option that makes the most sense for you.

HVAC Service & Maintenance Plan

HVAC Service & Maintenance Plan

Regular maintenance helps keep your heating and cooling system operating reliably, gives us an opportunity to identify developing problems, and helps ensure your equipment is ready before each heating and cooling season.
Our HVAC Service & Maintenance Plan includes two scheduled maintenance visits each year, with one focused on your cooling system and one focused on your heating system.

Spring Cooling Maintenance

Our spring maintenance visit helps prepare your air conditioning or heat pump system for warmer weather. We'll inspect and service the system, check important electrical and mechanical components, inspect airflow and drainage where applicable, and verify proper system operation.

Fall Heating Maintenance

Our fall maintenance visit helps prepare your furnace or heat pump for the heating season. We'll inspect and service the system, check important electrical and mechanical components, inspect burners and gas operation where applicable, and verify proper system operation.

Service Plan Benefits

In addition to seasonal maintenance, Service Plan customers receive additional benefits, including applicable repair discounts and warranty benefits.

If we identify a problem during maintenance, we'll explain what we found and discuss the available options before performing additional repairs.

Common Problems

Common HVAC Problems

Heating and cooling problems don't always mean your system needs to be replaced. Many symptoms can have several possible causes, which is why properly evaluating the system is important before deciding on a repair or replacement.

Furnace or heat isn't working

A system that isn't producing heat could have an issue with the thermostat, ignition system, electrical components, gas supply, airflow, or another part of the heating system. We'll diagnose the problem and explain the available options before recommending a repair.

Air conditioner isn't cooling

If your air conditioner is running but the house isn't getting comfortable, the problem could involve airflow, refrigerant, electrical components, the outdoor unit, or other parts of the system. The symptoms may be similar even when the underlying problems are very different.

Some rooms are too hot or too cold

Uneven temperatures aren't always an equipment problem. Ductwork, airflow, system sizing, insulation, the layout of the home, and other factors can all contribute to rooms that never seem to stay comfortable.

System runs constantly or cycles on and off frequently

An HVAC system that runs almost continuously or repeatedly starts and stops may be dealing with anything from a maintenance issue to improper airflow, controls, equipment sizing, or a failing component.

Weak airflow from the vents

Poor airflow can make an otherwise functioning heating or cooling system struggle to keep the home comfortable. Filters, blowers, coils, ductwork, and system design can all affect how well conditioned air moves throughout the home.

Unusual noises or odors

Rattling, squealing, grinding, banging, or unusual odors shouldn't automatically be ignored as part of an aging system. Some are relatively minor, while others can indicate a problem that should be evaluated before it causes additional damage.

Utility bills have increased

Higher energy bills can have many causes, but an HVAC system that's operating inefficiently may be one of them. Maintenance issues, equipment condition, airflow problems, and the overall efficiency of an older system can all contribute.

System needs frequent repairs

One repair doesn't necessarily mean it's time for replacement. But as equipment ages and repair costs begin adding up, it may make sense to compare the cost of continuing to repair the system with the cost and benefits of replacement.

HVAC system is getting older

Age alone doesn't automatically determine when a furnace, air conditioner, or heat pump should be replaced. We can evaluate the condition and performance of the equipment, discuss any repairs it needs, and help you compare keeping the existing system with replacing it.

You're comfortable sometimes, but the system never seems quite right

Not every HVAC problem results in a complete breakdown. Excessive humidity, long run times, temperature swings, poor airflow, or a home that simply never feels comfortable can indicate an issue with the equipment, ductwork, controls, or overall system design.
If something doesn't seem right with your heating or cooling system, you don't need to diagnose it yourself before calling. Tell us what you're experiencing, and we'll work from there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I repair or replace my HVAC system?

There isn't one answer based solely on the age of the equipment. We look at the condition of the system, the repair that's needed, previous repair history, efficiency, and the cost of the available options. We'll explain what we find and give you our recommendation, but when both options can be completed safely and properly, the final decision is yours.

Can you give me a price for a new furnace or air conditioner over the phone?

We prefer to evaluate the existing system and home before providing a replacement estimate. Equipment size is only part of the job. Existing ductwork, venting, gas piping, electrical requirements, drainage, available space, and other installation details can affect both the work required and the final price. An on-site evaluation allows us to provide a more accurate estimate based on the actual project rather than assumptions.

Should I replace my furnace and air conditioner at the same time?

Not always, and we do replace furnaces and air conditioners individually. However, when both pieces of equipment are nearing replacement, replacing the complete system at one time is typically more economical because portions of the installation work overlap. We'll explain the options and cost considerations so you can decide which approach makes the most sense.

How often should my HVAC system be serviced?

We generally recommend routine maintenance before each heating and cooling season. Regular maintenance gives us an opportunity to clean and inspect the equipment, check system operation, and identify developing problems before they result in an unexpected breakdown.

How do you determine what size HVAC system my home needs?

Proper sizing involves more than simply replacing the existing equipment with the same size. The home itself, heating and cooling requirements, ductwork, and other factors should be considered when selecting equipment. Bigger isn't automatically better, and improperly sized equipment can create comfort and performance problems.

Do you work on heat pumps and mini-splits?

Yes. We service and install heat pump systems and also offer mini-split installation and service. If you're considering either type of system, we can discuss whether it makes sense for your home and what other options may be available.

Do you provide commercial HVAC and refrigeration service?

Yes. In addition to residential HVAC, we provide commercial heating and cooling services and work on select commercial refrigeration equipment, including walk-in coolers and freezers, reach-in refrigeration, and refrigerated prep tables. We also have access through our suppliers to replacement commercial refrigeration equipment when repair is no longer the best option.

What if I don't know what's wrong with my HVAC system?

That's perfectly fine. You don't need to diagnose the problem before calling us. Tell us what you're experiencing, whether that's no heat, poor cooling, unusual noises, weak airflow, uneven temperatures, or simply that something doesn't seem right. We'll evaluate the system, explain what we find, and discuss your options.
